Chemist (Fixed Term)

About the role

Valterra Platinum, formerly Anglo American Platinum, is a primary producer of platinum group metals with integrated mining, smelting and refining operations in South Africa and Zimbabwe. It is looking for a Chemist for a fixed-term position based in Mokopane, Limpopo. The role is at Band 6 level and reports to the Section Manager Chemistry.

Key responsibilities

• Complete analyses within agreed standards and adhere to SLAs
• Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for employees in line with SHER
• Present documentation, statistics and reports accurately and on time
• Deliver supplier and customer satisfaction and communicate effectively with team members
• Attend applicable meetings, handle sectional audits and investigations, and give technical advice and problem-solving input
• Give input on instrument upgrades and monitor operating standards and procedures
• Audit processes regularly to ensure conformance to standards and QA/QC reports
• Contribute to a purpose-driven, inclusive culture that supports engagement and continuous improvement

Required profile

• Grade 12 / NQF 4
• BSc Honours (NQF Level 8 equivalent) in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry
• At least 3 years of laboratory experience in the PGM industry

Required skills

• Knowledge of domain-specific unit processes, operating procedures and equipment (ICP OES, ICP MS, XRF, LECO, Spark OES)
• Understanding of the Operating Model, project management fundamentals and business improvement tools
• Data measurement, monitoring and analysis techniques
• Basic financial metrics and budgeting tools
