Cattleman – Albert Falls Feedlot

About the role

Karan Beef Farming is seeking an experienced Cattleman to manage daily operations at the Albert Falls feedlot. The role requires hands‑on animal care, biosecurity vigilance and supervision of staff to ensure high welfare and productivity standards.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, monitor and treat sick cattle, maintaining accurate health records.
• Implement Foot‑and‑Mouth Disease awareness and strict bio‑security protocols.
• Oversee breeding cows and calves, including calving, nutrition and welfare.
• Process incoming cattle – weighing, tagging, health assessments and vaccination.
• Supervise loading and unloading, ensuring compliance with animal‑welfare and transport regulations.
• Manage vaccination programmes, medicine inventory and feed bunk operations.
• Plan daily cattle movements, allocate pens and coordinate grazing resources.
• Lead feedlot staff, handling attendance, scheduling, performance management and safety culture.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) qualification; animal‑health qualification advantageous.
• Minimum 4 years experience working in a cattle feedlot.
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans.
• Strong leadership, communication and numeracy skills.
• Willingness to work weekends, night shifts, overtime and public holidays.

Required skills

• Computer literacy.
• Basic knowledge of Excel.
