Category Manager Switchgear Sales

About the role

The Category Manager Switchgear is responsible for maintaining a portfolio of customer accounts, achieving high sales targets and building strong, sustainable relationships with both existing and new clients. The role also provides technical support and advice on RSA standards and specifies products for industry applications.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse the marketplace and design/execute a market strategy, reporting to the divisional manager on a monthly basis.
• Identify and capitalise on new product opportunities by positioning the product range in client stores.
• Develop product launch programmes and organise customer days or product‑awareness campaigns within one month of product receipt.
• Respond to client emails and calls within 48 hours and prepare enquiries and quotes weekly.
• Provide market and competitive feedback to the Category Manager on a weekly basis.
• Train clients and staff on products in structured weekly sessions.
• Generate new leads, follow up within 48 hours and execute sales strategies.
• Utilise sample stock, demo suitcases, catalogues and charts during customer visits to promote product awareness.
• Plan and submit weekly calls, launch and promote new products, and report sales activities weekly.
• Identify turnkey project possibilities and propose solutions together with relevant managers.

Required profile

• Matriculation plus an electrical qualification (B.Tech or B.Sc).
• Minimum five years of sales experience in a solar environment.
• Experience with South African National Standards and Atex/electrical environments.
• Valid driver’s licence, own reliable car and ability to travel.
• Fluency in English and Afrikaans.

• Knowledge of RSA (South African) standards.
• Expertise in Atex compliance.
• Electrical product specification and application.
• Use of sample stock, demo kits and catalogues for product promotion.
