Category Buyer

About the role

Weir is seeking a Category Buyer to support its mining technology business in Johannesburg. You will help develop and execute category strategies that drive cost savings, improve lead‑times and enhance supplier performance across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development and execution of category strategies aligned with regional objectives.
• Execute sourcing initiatives focused on lead‑time reduction, pricing improvements, supplier selection and development.
• Analyse spend, quality and delivery metrics to make informed sourcing decisions.
• Manage supplier relationships, monitor performance using KPIs and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies, Delegation of Authority and maintain accurate documentation, contracts and sourcing records.
• Utilise SAP and Coupa to maintain data accuracy and support governance controls.
• Identify and implement process improvements and share best practices across the region.
• Engage internal stakeholders (Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance) to translate business needs into sourcing actions.

Required profile

• Experience in procurement, sourcing or category buying, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Proven ability to analyse spend data and drive cost‑saving initiatives.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to zero‑harm behaviours.
