Business Development Manager

About the role

Red Ember Recruitment is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to lead sales and business development activities for the Food segment in South Africa. The role involves planning, organising, directing and controlling initiatives that align with the company’s strategic objectives and growth plans.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve annual volume and revenue targets.
• Create business plans for raw material segments and regional markets, conducting market research and competitor analysis.
• Manage profitability by monitoring commercial performance and taking corrective actions to meet sales and gross profit goals.
• Identify and secure long‑term customer contracts, bulk supply opportunities and new market segments.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers and principals, coordinating with procurement teams.
• Set performance targets for regions and team members, and support the team in structuring commercial offers.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development and sales, preferably within the food industry.
• Strong understanding of the South African market and ability to manage supplier relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to drive profitability and meet sales targets.
• Excellent organisational and leadership skills to coordinate cross‑functional teams.
