Business Development Manager - Construction & Engineering Insurance

About the role

Hollard Insure is looking for a Business Development Manager for its Construction & Engineering insurance business in KwaZulu-Natal, reporting to the Senior Business Development Manager. The role grows and manages a portfolio across an assigned broker network in Durban, balancing growth, profitability, broker engagement and risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain broker relationships through a structured visitation and engagement programme.
• Identify, develop and convert new business opportunities aligned with underwriting appetite and profitability.
• Present products, propositions and technical updates to brokers and stakeholders, and represent the business at broker engagements and industry events.
• Deliver GWP, new business, retention and portfolio growth targets.
• Monitor profitability, loss ratios, production trends and growth performance, and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct renewal reviews and work with brokers to retain profitable business.
• Underwrite and assess risks, provide quotations and recommend rates, terms, conditions and cover structures within delegated authority.
• Escalate complex technical underwriting matters, coordinate risk surveys and apply treaty and facultative reinsurance principles.
• Ensure accurate application of Sasria cover, rates, processes and compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with underwriting, claims, credit control and operations teams, and keep accurate records and reports.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years' insurance experience, including underwriting and business development in Construction & Engineering or a related class.
• BCom degree or comparable insurance qualification; FAIS and RE compliant with at least an NQF Level 4 insurance qualification.
• Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
• A relevant Construction & Engineering insurance qualification is advantageous.
