Business Data Steward

About the role

The Business Data Steward will join the Research and Development Division and report to the Senior Manager: Data Analytics. Based at GEMS Head Office in Pretoria, the role focuses on embedding data‑governance best practices and driving a data‑centric culture across the Scheme.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with business data owners to adopt data‑governance standards and embed data‑centric processes.
• Document, design and implement data requirements, collaborating with ICT on delivery.
• Develop and maintain procedures for data quality, metadata, reference and master data management.
• Manage data‑issue and query processes, ensuring compliance with POPIA and internal policies.
• Conduct regular data profiling, audits and lineage assessments; monitor Data Quality KPIs and drive remediation.
• Produce monitoring reports and dashboards to track data‑management initiatives.
• Provide training and guidance to data owners on governance policies and tools.

Required profile

• Degree in Business Analysis, Data Management, Economics, Accounting, Information Systems, Engineering or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in business analysis, data management or analytics within financial services.
• Minimum 3 years as a Data Management Analyst, Governance Analyst, Data Steward or similar role.
• Experience in the medical‑scheme industry is an advantage.
