Bookkeeper Intern

About the role

Melomed Private Hospitals SA is looking for a Bookkeeper Intern in Cape Town. The intern supports the accounting records by processing journals, reconciling accounts and assisting with statutory filings. The position is entry-level and requires proof of an N6 qualification in Financial Management.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with processing income, expense, asset and liability journals so the accounting records are accurate.
• Reconcile Balance Sheet accounts on a monthly basis, the Debtors control and petty cash.
• Prepare and post standard journals and check bank reconciliations.
• Ensure trial balance allocations are correct.
• Assist with statutory returns and make sure VAT receipts are filed accurately, addressing discrepancies promptly.
• Perform general office duties such as filing and support other tasks while following company policy and procedures.

Required profile

• Grade 12.
• N6 qualification in Financial Management from a recognised TVET college.
• Unemployed graduate (most internships require this).
• Strong verbal and written communication, organisation and attention to detail.
• Numerate, accurate, methodical, customer centric and able to cope under pressure.

Required skills

• Computer literacy is essential.
• Accounting basics: journal entries, bank and petty cash reconciliation, trial balance and VAT.
