Back-End Software Engineer II

About the role

Capitec is looking for an energetic, self‑motivated Back‑End Software Engineer II to join a cross‑functional team that owns the full software development lifecycle. You will design, develop, test, deploy and maintain server‑side components that power banking applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and enhance back‑end systems and applications.
• Write clean, performant code for server‑side components and RESTful APIs.
• Collaborate with product, business and technical analysts to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Optimize database queries (SQL/NoSQL) and ensure scalability and reliability.
• Implement micro‑service and event‑driven architectures using Kubernetes and containerisation.
• Participate in code reviews, version control, and continuous integration pipelines.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12; tertiary IT qualification preferred.
• 3+ years proven experience in back‑end development and project delivery.
• Clear criminal and credit record.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• SQL and NoSQL database systems.
• RESTful API design and integration.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Kubernetes and Docker (containerisation).
• Version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Design patterns, algorithms and data structures.
