Automotive Claims Technician (Internship)

About the role

MMS, a subsidiary of Motus Holdings, offers an Automotive Claims Technician Internship Programme in Edenvale, Gauteng. It gives qualified automotive professionals exposure to the insurance and financial services environment while using their technical automotive expertise. The technician applies vehicle knowledge in a claims and authorisation setting, supporting accurate technical evaluation, cost control, compliance with company procedures and good customer service. The role reports to the Claims Team Leader / Claims Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Assess vehicle damage, mechanical failures and repair needs; interpret diagnostic reports and evaluate repair validity and warranty issues
• Validate repair quotations and review labour and parts costs, comparing repair versus replacement options
• Apply authorisation guidelines and help minimise claims leakage through cost management
• Register and process claims, keep accurate records, update claims systems and escalate complex cases
• Support customers, dealerships and repairers, assist with complaints and build positive stakeholder relationships
• Take part in workshop and practical learning, review repair methods and stay aware of EV and hybrid technologies
• Contribute to claims quality and productivity, support trend analysis, supplier evaluations and operational improvements

Required profile

• Qualified Motor Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic or equivalent recognised automotive trade qualification
• Completed apprenticeship programme and Trade Test Certification
• Valid driver's licence
• Unemployed graduate (most internships require this)

Required skills

• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
• Knowledge of vehicle systems, diagnostics, parts identification and labour costing
• Understanding of insurance and claims administration, claims lifecycles and authorisation processes
• Analytical thinking, attention to detail, communication skills and ability to work under pressure
