Audit Committee Member – Mine Health and Safety Council

About the role

The Mine Health and Safety Council (MHSC), established under the Mine Health and Safety Act to advise the Minister of Minerals and Energy on mine health and safety matters, is inviting applications from qualified persons to serve on its Audit Committee as a public entity under the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). The position is part-time, with a three-year term of office.

Required profile

• Minimum of 8 years' experience as a member of an audit committee in the public sector and/or public entity.
• Demonstrable executive management experience of at least 5 years.
• A relevant degree and postgraduate qualification in Accounting, Auditing, IT, Legal or Risk Management, together with a CA(SA)/CIA/ACCA/CRMA/PA(SA)/CISA, LLB or similar.
• Experience working and reporting to a Board.
• Member in good standing with the relevant professional body.
• Demonstrable knowledge of the Public Service and Public Entities is a strong advantage.

Required skills

• Strong expertise in accounting, financial management, corporate governance, risk management, auditing, compliance management, performance management, ICT and legal services.
• Extensive knowledge of the PFMA, National Treasury Regulations and GRAP.

Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by a panel appointed by the Council, and appointments are made by the Council on the panel's recommendation. The Council reserves the right not to appoint anyone.
