Attorney – Community Action & Research (3-year contract)

About the role

The University of the Free State Law Clinic is seeking a qualified Attorney to lead community action and research initiatives. This three‑year contract role combines legal service delivery, supervision of candidate attorneys and undergraduate students, and active community engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal services, including drafting court pleadings and representing clients in court.
• Perform office administration and ensure compliance with internal quality assurance measures.
• Supervise and train candidate attorneys and undergraduate law students.
• Develop, implement and monitor community‑engagement programmes and projects.
• Contribute to research activities and academic coordination within the Law Clinic.
• Report to the management structures of the UFS Law Clinic and Faculty of Law.

Required profile

• LLB degree on NQF Level 8 from a South African university (copy required).
• Admitted and practising Attorney in the High Court of South Africa with proof of right of appearance under Section 25(3) of the Legal Practice Act.
• Good standing with the Legal Practice Council.
• South African ID or passport (for foreign nationals) and proof of qualifications (including SAQA accreditation for foreign degrees).
• Evidence of current or recent employment (letter, contract, service certificate or payslip).
