Associate Lecturer in Tourism

About the role

The Department of Geography, Environmental Studies & Tourism at the University of the Western Cape seeks an Associate Lecturer to join its Tourism programme. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervise Honours projects, and develop a research profile that aligns with the department’s focus on the spatial and temporal dimensions of tourism.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and tutorials in tourism courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Supervise Honours research projects and provide academic guidance to students.
• Develop and publish research outputs in tourism‑related fields.
• Integrate new technologies to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
• Participate in departmental administration and community‑engagement activities.

Required profile

• A completed four‑year Honours degree in Geography with a focus on Tourism.
• Active enrolment in a Master’s programme in Geography (Tourism focus).
• At least one year of experience in tutoring, lecturing, or structured teaching support.
• Demonstrated ability to teach tourism from a geographical perspective and supervise Honours students.

Required skills

• Strong academic writing and research skills in tourism studies.
• Ability to design and deliver curriculum aligned with geographical approaches to tourism.
