Associate Finance Manager

About the role

An established international business is looking for a detail-oriented, analytical Associate Finance Manager to join its finance team at the Cape Town-based head office. The role sits between the operational finance team and the Financial Manager and acts as a quality control gatekeeper: reviewing, consolidating and verifying management accounts, VAT reconciliations and age analyses before they reach the Financial Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Review monthly management accounts, VAT reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations prepared by the Senior Accountant, ensuring accuracy, correct period allocation and variance commentary.
• Review monthly debtors and creditors age analyses and consolidated reports, ensuring controllers reconcile all accounts and meet month-end deadlines.
• Maintain the monthly finance reporting calendar and act as the gatekeeper so every report carries documented review and sign-off.
• Assist the Financial Manager with intercompany reconciliations and reporting coordination across South African and international entities, including Dubai.
• Monitor internal controls, identify process weaknesses and manage the month-end close checklist.

Required profile

• BCom Accounting degree (NQF Level 7); SAIPA articles ideal or SAICA.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in an accounting or financial role.
• Demonstrated experience reviewing the work of others and taking accountability for team output.
• Ability to escalate issues to the Financial Manager and hold the operational team accountable for reporting deadlines.
• Organised, proactive and able to catch discrepancies early.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in MS Excel; working knowledge of Pastel, MS Excel Advanced and Zoho accounting software is highly advantageous.
• Sound understanding of IFRS for SMEs and South African VAT legislation.
• Experience with management accounts, VAT, SARS and age analyses.
• Exposure to multi-currency, cross-border transactions or trading/import-export environments is a major plus.
