Assistant Accountant

About the role

RCL Foods is looking for a motivated Assistant Accountant to join the Bakery operating unit in Benoni. The role supports sound economic decision‑making by preparing accurate financial reports and assisting with internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare month‑end management accounts and ensure timely completion.
• Record General Ledger journal entries with supporting documentation.
• Process closing stock figures, reconcile stock variances and loan accounts.
• Assist the Financial Accountant with detailed month‑end reports and analysis of cost of sales.
• Investigate expense variances against budgets, forecasts and prior periods.
• Maintain provisions, accruals, discounts and rebates accounts.
• Produce weekly cash‑flow forecasts and ad‑hoc financial reports for senior management.
• Ensure stock items are balanced, perform spot checks and support internal/external audit processes.
• Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required.

Required profile

• BCom or BCom Hons degree (preferably Accounting/SAICA/SAIPA).
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Minimum three years of relevant accounting experience.
• Experience in a fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment is advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• Computer literacy with intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
