Apprentice: Mechanical Fitter (Germiston, Salt River, Durban)

About the role

Transnet is recruiting an apprentice mechanical fitter in Germiston, Salt River and Durban. The apprenticeship prepares trainees to operate independently and productively so they can become competent qualified artisans. The programme is run through the TA, FOE&PL, Lrn & Perf-Apprentices department, reporting to the Senior Specialist Learning & Performance.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and prepare work sites, equipment, tools, consumables and materials for trade-related activities.
• Use hand, power and measuring tools.
• Install, assemble, fit and connect electrical equipment and control systems.
• Test, inspect, commission, maintain and repair electrical equipment, control systems, installations and assemblies.

Required profile

• Completed either: an N2-N6 certificate covering relevant trade theory, engineering science, mathematics and other relevant subjects; or an NCV Level 4 certificate with trade theory, mathematics and vocational subjects; or Technical grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science and relevant trade theory.
• Must have passed Mathematics at 50% or more.
• No trade certificate (Red Seal).
• Age between 18 and 30 years.
• South African citizen.
• Preferred: applicants who are members of the designated groups under the organisation's Employment Equity Plan and targets.
