Aftermarket Engineer

About the role

Chart Industries’ Howden South Africa is seeking an experienced Aftermarket Engineer to provide engineering and design support to both external and internal clients. The role will focus on delivering technical solutions for existing and new equipment, ensuring reliability and performance in line with user specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Support Service, Spares and Manufacturing departments with engineering expertise.
• Conduct investigations and lead major engineering projects for aftermarket support.
• Select and design new equipment to meet user specifications.
• Assess existing equipment condition, develop repair procedures and generate detailed reports.
• Review and sign‑off designs, repair procedures and drawings produced by others.
• Provide engineering solutions to internal and external client issues.
• Develop and maintain client relationships to promote the Howden product range and suggest enhancements.
• Mentor less‑experienced engineers, delegate tasks and monitor progress.
• Supply power‑plant process knowledge to ensure equipment operates as designed.
• Update engineering documentation such as specifications, design manuals and welding procedures.

Required profile

• B.Sc or B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years experience in a heavy‑engineering workshop.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.

Required skills

• Fan performance testing.
• Vibration troubleshooting and analysis.
• Welding knowledge and experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office, especially PowerPoint.
