Afrikaans Teacher - High School

About the role

This full‑time, on‑site position is for an Afrikaans Teacher at the high‑school level in Johannesburg. The teacher will plan and deliver engaging, curriculum‑aligned lessons, assess learner progress, provide constructive feedback and keep accurate records of assessments and attendance.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver Afrikaans language lessons covering reading, writing, listening and speaking.
• Prepare teaching materials and differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
• Assess learner performance, provide feedback and maintain accurate records of assessments and attendance.
• Participate in staff meetings, parent consultations and school events.
• Contribute to co‑curricular activities where appropriate.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistent academic standards and a respectful learning environment.

Required profile

• Relevant teaching qualification and registration with the appropriate educational authority (e.g., SACE), specialised in Afrikaans or language teaching.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Afrikaans, including grammar, literature and language instruction at high‑school level.
• Experience in classroom management, lesson planning, assessment design and varied teaching methodologies.
• Ability to integrate educational technology and use basic digital learning platforms and classroom tools.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with learners, families and colleagues.
• Commitment to inclusive, non‑discriminatory practices and supporting learners from diverse backgrounds.
• Organisational reliability and a professional approach to administrative responsibilities.
