Actuarial Expert - Post-Retirement Medical Aid Consulting

About the role

Old Mutual is looking for an Actuarial Expert in Johannesburg to set the client strategy ownership for a portfolio of clients that feeds into the broader OMCC strategy. The role is individually accountable for managing the implementation of the strategy, monitoring results and adjusting it as needed, and for providing post-retirement medical aid consulting, general actuarial consulting, communication, group assurance and legal consulting services to existing and new clients. Appointments may be made at a lower role size depending on the candidate's experience.

Key responsibilities

• Set the strategic consulting direction and client ownership for a portfolio of OMCC clients and manage its implementation
• Provide consulting services to clients, either through OMCC consultants or independently
• Develop, lead and manage the client strategy
• Take part in product development and enhancement to stay up to date with market changes
• Ensure systems and processes align with legislative requirements
• Build strong relationships with clients, trustees and management committees to reduce business risk, retain clients and identify new business
• Manage expense and income budgets and source continuous improvement in service delivery
• Resolve top-level service delivery problems, conflicts and ensure consistent client communication
• Deliver consulting and advice to contracted service levels and drive retention and growth against targets
• Market new and enhanced products and work with sales teams on new business

Required profile

• Nearly or newly qualified actuary with extensive insurance experience
• Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Actuarial Science (required)
• Advantageous: MBA or other commercial qualification
• 10 years' track record in employee benefit, actuarial and post-retirement medical aid/pensions outsourcing
• Track record in client relationship management at C-suite level
