Accountant with Japanese proficiency (US GAAP)

About the role

We are looking for a highly skilled South African accountant who is fluent in Japanese and experienced in preparing US financial statements. The role supports US‑based clients, handling accounting functions, reporting, and bilingual communication.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for US entities in accordance with US GAAP.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations, maintain general‑ledger integrity and process journal entries, accruals and intercompany transactions.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end close, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Support audit preparation and respond to auditor requests.
• Act as liaison between English‑speaking and Japanese‑speaking stakeholders, translating financial information and participating in client meetings conducted in Japanese.
• Ensure regulatory, tax compliance and adherence to internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (SAICA articles advantageous).
• Professional qualification such as CA(SA), AGA(SA), CIMA, ACCA or CPA preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience preparing US financial statements and working with US‑based companies or accounting firms.
• Fluent written and spoken Japanese and English at a professional business level.

Required skills

• US GAAP reporting knowledge.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Xero, Microsoft Dynamics or similar).
