Accountant – Finance Team (Sandton, Johannesburg)

About the role

We are a well‑established software company seeking an experienced Accountant to join our finance team in Sandton, Johannesburg. This hands‑on position offers full ownership of the accounting function, with a strong emphasis on financial reporting, tax compliance, and accurate record‑keeping.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day accounting operations using Sage Accounting.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and support month‑end and year‑end reporting.
• Perform bank and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Handle VAT, PAYE and other statutory submissions via SARS eFiling.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and the fixed‑asset register.
• Liaise with SARS, external auditors and service providers.
• Ensure compliance with South African accounting standards and tax legislation.
• Support continuous improvement of finance processes and internal controls.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Strong working knowledge of Sage Accounting.
• Experience with SARS eFiling and South African tax submissions (VAT, PAYE, Corporate Income Tax).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Fluency in Afrikaans.
• High attention to detail and ability to work independently.
