Accessible Transport Driver

About the role

The Department of Student Services and Development seeks a dedicated driver to provide safe, accessible, and reliable transport for students with disabilities. The role supports the university’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success by enabling full participation in academic and co‑curricular activities.

Key responsibilities

• Operate university transport vehicles, including wheelchair restraints, ramps and other accessibility equipment.
• Transport students with disabilities to academic, residential, social, leadership and co‑curricular events.
• Maintain a clean driving record and ensure vehicle safety and cleanliness.
• Perform routine vehicle checks and report any maintenance issues.
• Provide courteous and dignified service to all passengers.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• Valid Code 08 driver’s licence (preferably Code 10) and a Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
• Minimum six months’ experience in passenger transport; experience with students or persons with disabilities is an advantage.
• Valid First Aid Level 1 certificate.
• Ability to work responsibly with wheelchair restraints and accessibility equipment.

Required skills

• Operation of wheelchair restraints and vehicle ramps.
• Professional Driving Permit (PDP) compliance.
• First Aid Level 1 competency.
