Risk Manager – Procurement (Cape Town/Johannesburg)

About the role

This Group‑level position sits within the Group Procurement Office and supports the formulation and implementation of the risk management strategy for Group Procurement across the Sanlam and Santam Group. The role reports to the Head of Group Procurement Risk & Governance and works closely with Group Enterprise Risk Management.

Key responsibilities

• Embed procurement risk management and digitisation requirements to provide risk visibility across suppliers, categories, contracts and business units.
• Facilitate third‑party risk assessments throughout the supplier lifecycle, from sourcing to contract termination.
• Maintain and enhance the Third‑Party Risk Management Framework, including due diligence, risk segmentation and ongoing monitoring.
• Identify, assess, monitor and report on key procurement risks such as supplier concentration, operational resilience, cyber, ESG and regulatory risks.
• Conduct risk‑based reviews of procurement processes, controls and supplier governance, recommending improvements and remediation plans.
• Prepare procurement risk reports, dashboards and committee submissions for senior management.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance or related field; postgraduate qualification or honours advantageous.
• Professional certifications such as FRM, CRISC, PRM, CPA or relevant procurement qualifications.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in risk management, internal audit or operations within financial services, procurement or supply chain.
• Proven first‑line (1LoD) experience executing risk assessments, managing control frameworks and designing remediation plans.
• Experience with third‑party risk management and procurement risk frameworks, preferably within a South African insurer.
