Logistics Supervisor – Customs & Clearance Management

About the role

IFF is seeking a Logistics Supervisor to lead customs clearance and end‑to‑end logistics operations from its Johannesburg hub. The role combines strategic planning with hands‑on management of import/export processes, material flow and team development.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all import and export customs procedures, preparing and approving documentation such as commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin and HS codes.
• Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, port authorities and regulatory agencies to resolve clearance issues and ensure compliance with tariffs, duties, VAT and regulatory changes.
• Maintain accurate classification of goods, apply appropriate INCOTERMS and monitor duty structures to optimise costs.
• Track shipments from origin to final delivery, proactively addressing delays or discrepancies.
• Manage inbound material flow, including receiving, inspection and documentation of spare parts and equipment.
• Plan and execute outbound shipments, supervising packaging, labeling, loading and documentation accuracy.
• Collaborate with carriers to optimise routes, transportation costs and delivery performance.
• Maintain records of customs transactions and support internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration or a related field.
• 5–7 years of logistics operations experience with a strong focus on customs clearance.
• In‑depth knowledge of export/import regulations, HS codes, INCOTERMS and customs systems.
• Proven ability to lead a logistics team and drive continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Experience with ERP/WMS platforms such as SAP, Oracle, Odoo or Microsoft Dynamics.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities related to customs and freight operations.
• Excellent documentation and record‑keeping skills.
