Purchasing Officer

About the role

Kumba Iron Ore is seeking a Purchasing Officer to manage end‑to‑end procurement activities, from sourcing and order creation to delivery tracking and invoice closure. You will support the company’s safety, health, sustainability and supply‑chain objectives while ensuring compliance with internal policies.

Key responsibilities

• Execute purchase requests, conduct spot sourcing, obtain necessary approvals and process change orders.
• Track delivery of goods/services, monitor invoice capture and close purchase orders accurately.
• Perform regular risk assessments and raise any safety, health or environmental issues immediately.
• Ensure purchasing activities comply with safety, health, environmental and contractor performance policies.
• Adhere to supply‑chain strategy, budgets, performance targets and risk identification.
• Maintain visibility of purchased items for contract placement and provide thorough administration and reporting.
• Verify that ordered materials meet specifications and cost expectations, minimizing rework and invoice mismatches.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, evaluate performance and escalate critical issues.
• Apply sourcing rules in line with Anglo American sustainability and social requirements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in purchasing or procurement within an industrial or mining environment.
• Knowledge of safety, health, environmental regulations and risk‑assessment processes.
• Familiarity with supply‑chain strategies, budgeting and performance monitoring.
• Strong stakeholder and supplier management capabilities.
• Understanding of sustainability and social responsibility standards.
