Compliance Monitoring Officer – Banking

About the role

The Compliance Monitoring Officer will provide independent, risk‑based assurance that the bank complies with all applicable laws, regulations and internal policies. You will work closely with business units and senior leadership to identify, assess and remediate compliance risks.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and escalate non‑compliance issues to appropriate stakeholders and governance forums.
• Ensure compliance risks are assessed and aligned with the bank’s risk framework.
• Review products, processes and policies for legislative and regulatory compliance.
• Plan and execute independent monitoring reviews, defining scope, testing approaches and analysing data.
• Produce clear, high‑quality reports with root‑cause analysis and actionable recommendations for Exco, Board and regulators.
• Engage with stakeholders to gather inputs and continuously improve reporting.
• Support regulatory engagements, including inspections and reporting.
• Contribute to the automation of monitoring and reporting processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Internal Audit or Accounting.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in financial services compliance, legal advisory, internal audit or risk management.
• Working knowledge of South African banking legislation (Banks Act, FSRA, FICA, POPIA, NCA, ECT Act, Consumer Protection Act, FAIS).
• Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships at all levels, including Exco.
• Experience compiling accurate reports for governance and regulatory bodies.
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple reviews simultaneously.
