Asset Controller – Asset Management Specialist

About the role

The Asset Controller will ensure that reliable asset data is captured, maintained and reported through an effective asset management system for Wits RHI. This position provides essential operational support to keep the institute’s asset portfolio accurate, compliant and ready for audits.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain best‑practice asset management processes and systems.
• Create and enhance asset data presentations, reports and statistical analyses.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date asset register and inventory for all Wits RHI units.
• Conduct regular asset surveys, condition ratings and monthly/bi‑annual stock takes.
• Manage asset disposals, agreements and valuations of aged assets.
• Integrate safety, health, environment (SHE) and contractual requirements into the asset portfolio.
• Support risk management activities, including insurance and compliance reporting.
• Verify deliveries, reconcile purchase orders, invoices and delivery notes, and record serial numbers.
• Liaise with suppliers, maintain relationships and ensure accurate documentation.
• Dispatch consumables, equipment and assets according to policies.
• Act as first point of contact for staff asset queries and route issues as needed.
• Assist with site audits, maintain incident registers and perform ad‑hoc administrative duties.

Required profile

• Proven experience in maintaining accurate asset registers and conducting asset surveys.
• Familiarity with asset disposal processes and valuation methods.
• Ability to integrate SHE and contractual requirements into asset management.
• Strong administrative skills, including document verification and record keeping.
• Experience liaising with suppliers and supporting audit activities.
