General Assistant

About the role

The General Assistant supports daily operations in a food service environment, ensuring compliance with cleanliness, hygiene and quality standards while assisting with meal preparation and service.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across all areas, complying with company and statutory regulations.
• Prepare and assemble meals, especially salads and desserts, and stock the serving line.
• Keep the serving line, kitchen, and canteen tables clean and well‑stocked.
• Record food leftovers, store items properly, and assist with stock counts during shift changes.
• Provide high‑level customer service, handle complaints or compliments, and support training of new staff.
• Ensure health, safety and food standards are consistently met.
• Assist in training new employees and carry out reasonable requests from management.
• Attend meetings and training courses as required and perform related work as assigned.

Required profile

• Must be at least 18 years old with a matric / senior certificate.
• Honest, reliable, with good hand‑eye coordination and personal hygiene.
• Enjoy practical and methodical work and have good communication skills.
• Ability to work quickly, safely, and as part of a team for 45‑50 hours per week.
• Stamina to work long hours and physically able to bend, stand, lift.
• Free from skin allergies to foods and detergents.
