Tax Accountant – Tax Practitioner (Johannesburg)

About the role

The Apex Group is seeking a Tax Accountant (Tax Practitioner) to join its Johannesburg team. This role focuses on delivering high‑quality tax compliance services to a diverse client base, ensuring timely filings and providing technical support across tax matters.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review tax computations for clients.
• Coordinate internal teams to ensure timely filing of quarterly and annual tax returns.
• Monitor client tax compliance status, produce KPI reports, and review tax reports.
• Assist with internal training and tax update sessions.
• Provide technical tax support to client service units following established procedures.
• Prepare tax technical papers and new tax procedures.
• Handle client queries, liaise with SARS, and draft responses to letters and supporting documents.
• Attend meetings with SARS officers on behalf of clients and assist in drafting tax ruling applications.
• Conduct research on domestic and international tax issues and implement changes arising from new tax legislation.

Required profile

• Recently qualified CA (SA) or SAICA articled candidate with audit training experience.
• Registered Tax Practitioner.
• Exposure to taxation during articles training.
• Strong attention to detail, organized, proactive and able to work autonomously.
• Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
