Operations Manager – Plant Production

About the role

The Operations Manager will lead the plant and production team, ensuring safety standards are met while achieving production targets. This senior position reports to senior management and plays a key role in driving efficiency and transformation within the plant.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure production targets are met according to plan.
• Manage and develop staff responsible for production activities.
• Optimise revenue generation by improving production efficiency and controlling costs.
• Control plant costs to meet or exceed the business plan.
• Maintain plant safety performance at or above the business plan.
• Ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
• Lead transformation initiatives to eliminate waste, improve productivity and reduce operating costs.
• Support change‑management projects and advise senior management on business improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Grade 12/STD 10/NQF Level 4 (essential).
• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy or equivalent NQF Level 7.
• Minimum 5 years experience in metallurgical/platinum plant operations.
• 3–5 years in a managerial position within a processing plant (desirable).
• Competencies in crushing, milling, flotation & thickener operations, engineering knowledge, metallurgical data interpretation, extractive and pyro knowledge, safety principles (MHSA), and environmental legislation.
