Mechanical Engineer – Mining Industry

About the role

Our client, a boutique engineering consultancy in Perth, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support mining and industrial projects across gold, lithium and iron‑ore sectors. The role involves full‑cycle design from concept through detailed 3D modelling, calculations and documentation, adhering to Australian standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop 3D models and detailed drawings for equipment such as crushers, conveyors, mills, pumps and piping using AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, MicroStation or OpenBuildings.
• Prepare general arrangement and mechanical detail drawings and review models in Navisworks.
• Perform structural, hydraulic and pipe‑stress calculations using SpaceGass and spreadsheet tools.
• Apply AS/NZS standards to all design work and ensure safety, efficiency and scalability.
• Collaborate with Australia‑based engineers, translating design requirements into technical solutions while working autonomously.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience in mining or heavy‑industrial projects.
• Direct experience with Australian standards (AS/NZS).
• Proven ability to deliver both conceptual and detailed design deliverables.
• Strong independent work ethic with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, Autodesk Inventor or OpenBuildings.
• Navisworks for model review.
• SpaceGass for structural calculations.
• Spreadsheet‑based hydraulic and pipe‑stress analysis.
• Knowledge of AS/NZS mechanical standards.
