Legal Counsel – Commercial, Disputes & Risk

About the role

Interpath is seeking a motivated Legal Counsel to join its in‑house legal and risk function in Cape Town. The role blends commercial contracting, dispute and claims management, and regulatory support, giving you broad exposure across the firm’s advisory, restructuring, and corporate activities.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including client engagement terms, supplier agreements, software licences, procurement and lease agreements.
• Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice to internal stakeholders and senior management.
• Support engagement teams on contractual matters, handling negotiations and resolving queries.
• Assist in developing and improving contracting policies, procedures and legal risk frameworks.
• Manage complaints and claims, from initial assessment through response drafting and outcome tracking.
• Work with external counsel and internal teams on contentious matters, contributing to litigation strategy, case preparation and document review.
• Respond to regulatory enquiries, investigations and third‑party requests, supporting overall regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with experience in commercial contracts, disputes and regulatory matters.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, able to advise senior stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced professional services environment.
• Proactive, adaptable and capable of handling multiple priorities.
