Lecturer, Senior Lecturer & Associate Professor Positions in Accountancy

About the role

The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences is seeking qualified academics for five positions at the School of Accountancy on the Bloemfontein Campus. The roles cover Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor levels, focusing on teaching, research and academic leadership in accounting disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Teach, coordinate and assess modules in Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Finance, Taxation or Auditing at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Develop students’ digital competence and other graduate attributes.
• Contribute to curriculum development to align with professional accountancy bodies and evolving industry needs.
• Advance pedagogical practices within the School of Accountancy.
• Conduct research, publish in quality journals and present at conferences, workshops and seminars.
• Maintain relationships with the research community, professional bodies and the accountancy profession.
• Perform administrative duties within the School of Accountancy.
• For Senior Lecturers: provide academic leadership, oversee quality assurance, supervise Honours, Master’s and PhD research, and mentor junior staff.
• For Associate Professors: assume broader academic leadership within the faculty, supervise postgraduate research, mentor staff and maintain a strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.

Required profile

• Lecturer: Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in Accountancy or related discipline, or Chartered Accountant (SA) with an NQF Level 8 qualification.
• Senior Lecturer: Relevant PhD (NQF Level 10) and demonstrated academic excellence.
• Associate Professor: Proven research leadership, regular peer‑reviewed publications and experience in academic governance.
• Good academic record, evidence of conference presentations and manuscripts suitable for journal submission.

Required skills

• Subject expertise in Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Finance, Taxation or Auditing.
