Head of School of Nursing – Associate Professor/Professor (5‑year contract)

About the role

The Faculty of Health Sciences seeks an experienced academic leader to serve as Head of the School of Nursing. The appointment combines a permanent associate professor or professor position with a five‑year contract to lead the school, with the possibility of a second term.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in Faculty management under the Dean’s leadership.
• Drive research, scholarship, community engagement and transformation within the School of Nursing.
• Foster a culture of innovation in teaching, learning, simulation and technology.
• Oversee curriculum development and review in line with SANC and CHE standards.
• Represent the school in national, regional and international nursing and health‑care forums.
• Manage strategic and day‑to‑day operations, including financial stewardship.
• Identify and secure third‑stream income to support core functions.

Required profile

• PhD (NQF Level 10) in Nursing.
• Professional registration with the South African Nursing Council as Clinical Nurse and Midwife.
• Registered qualifications in Nursing Education and Nursing Administration/Management.
• Proven team‑lead experience in nursing.
• Minimum 7 years (associate professor) or 10 years (professor) in higher education, with at least 5 years in academic management.
• Extensive supervision of master’s and PhD students.
• Strong record of accredited research publications and external funding.
• Active national and international scholarly collaborations.
