Junior Data Scientist

About the role

The Junior Data Scientist will join Nedbank’s Data & Analytics team to design, prototype and build next‑generation analytic engines. You will apply machine‑learning, data‑mining and information‑retrieval techniques to turn enterprise data into actionable business insights.

Key responsibilities

• Develop best‑in‑class statistical models and algorithms for banking and insurance use cases.
• Conduct advanced statistical analysis and provide actionable insights to business units.
• Collaborate with business intelligence and analytics teams to integrate and present model outputs.
• Apply machine‑learning and AI techniques to large data sets, including Hadoop, Spark and MapReduce environments.
• Perform data discovery, prepare data for modelling and ensure quality controls.
• Work with distributed computing tools such as Hive, Gurobi and Arena to optimise solutions.
• Stay updated on emerging tools and techniques and contribute thought leadership.
