Junior Accountant – Project Accounting

About the role

The Junior Accountant – Project Accounting is responsible for accurate processing and maintenance of project financial data throughout the project life‑cycle. The role supports budgeting, invoicing and reporting while acting as the liaison between project teams and the wider finance organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Review and process project set‑up and budget update requests in the financial system, ensuring compliance with internal policy and audit requirements.
• Quality‑assure and process project invoices, resource assignments and updates to project information.
• Engage with project teams to resolve discrepancies, errors or missing information before posting.
• Track and monitor steering committee reports, invoice ageing and project forecasts.
• Prepare and distribute standard project financial reports.
• Support project close‑out activities and monthly period‑end closure processes.
• Liaise with Finance, Debtors, Procurement and other internal departments to resolve queries and escalations.
• Assist in documenting, maintaining and improving project accounting processes, including automation initiatives with IT.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (NQF Level 7) or Diploma (NQF Level 6) with relevant experience.
• 1–4 years of experience in financial, project accounting or a similar role.
• Excellent communication, analytical and numerical abilities.
• Highly organised, detail‑oriented and able to meet deadlines.
• Team player with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with a computerised financial system.
