Human Resources Assistant – Hotel Cluster

About the role

The Cluster Human Resources Assistant provides essential HR administration and compliance support for the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! cluster. You will act as the first point of contact for employee queries, maintain accurate personnel records, and assist with recruitment and onboarding processes.

Key responsibilities

• Answer incoming telephone calls professionally, record and relay messages while preserving confidentiality.
• Create, maintain and secure employee and applicant filing systems in line with South African labour legislation and POPIA.
• Process employment applications, interview documentation, reference checks and onboarding paperwork.
• Prepare, proofread and distribute HR correspondence, reports and internal communications using computer‑based systems.
• Audit and coordinate the secure distribution of paychecks and support payroll administration when required.
• Assist management in screening CVs, coordinating interviews, conducting assessments and communicating job offers.
• Support onboarding by ensuring completion of induction documentation, policy acknowledgements and statutory forms.
• Maintain employee communication bulletin boards and post required legal and HR notices.
• Handle sensitive employee issues with discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality.

Required profile

• Professional telephone etiquette and strong written communication skills.
• Knowledge of South African labour legislation, POPIA and Marriott HR policies.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information.
• Organisational skills to manage multiple filing systems and documentation streams.
