HR Generalist – Farm-based Role in Johannesburg

About the role

Our client, a farm operation near Johannesburg, is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to manage a wide range of human‑resource functions. The role requires a proactive professional who can handle payroll for a large staff, ensure compliance with health and safety standards, and support the development of the workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Process VIP payroll for approximately 450 employees and manage related administration.
• Compile and submit the annual Workplace Skills Plan, Training Report and Employment Equity Report.
• Coordinate health & safety initiatives with an external provider to achieve OSHAS 18001 accreditation.
• Administer Workmen’s Compensation matters.
• Chair or prosecute disciplinary hearings and manage CCMA cases.
• Assist in recruitment, selection and appointment of new staff.
• Support training and development programmes.
• Liaise with department heads and senior management to promote best HR practices.
• Review and update HR policies and procedures in partnership with the HR Manager.
• Perform daily general HR administration and maintain strong computer and administrative records.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field.
• Minimum three years of experience in a busy HR department.
• Hands‑on experience with large‑scale payroll processing.
• Familiarity with health & safety accreditation, workmen’s compensation and CCMA processes.
• Proven ability to conduct disciplinary hearings.
• Experience in recruitment, training coordination and policy review.
• Valid driver’s licence and own transport.
