Fibre Optic Splicing Technician

About the role

Our client, a leading network owner, is seeking an experienced Fibre Optic Splicing Technician to join their team in Mbombela. The role involves installing, splicing, and testing fibre optic infrastructure for both residential and enterprise customers, ensuring reliable connectivity across GPON networks.

Key responsibilities

• Perform fibre splicing, termination, and testing on FTTH and FTTB projects.
• Connect clients to GPON networks and diagnose fibre network faults.
• Interpret network designs and technical drawings to produce accurate as‑built documentation.
• Conduct OTDR and power‑meter testing, and build end‑to‑end enterprise links.
• Collaborate with project teams to meet deadlines and project targets.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in fibre optic splicing, installation, and testing.
• Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
• Relevant fibre optic certifications (FOA, CFOT, or similar) are advantageous.
• Physically fit, able to work at heights, in confined spaces and lift heavy equipment.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends and standby shifts.

Required skills

• Fibre optic splicing and termination.
• Use of OTDRs, power meters and fusion splicers.
• Knowledge of GPON, FTTH and FTTB networks.
• Interpretation of network designs and technical drawings.
• Underground and aerial fibre installation techniques.
