Junior Field Technician – Fibre & Wireless Installations

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on, technically‑minded Junior Field Technician to join our Networks team in Lichtenburg. You will carry out standard fibre and wireless installations, repairs and call‑outs for home and small‑business customers while delivering excellent service and adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Follow SOPs and health & safety procedures, maintaining accurate project and safety documentation.
• Prepare daily jobs by confirming stock availability and maintaining equipment.
• Perform standard fibre and wireless installations, including CPE setup, internal/external cable runs, and equipment configuration.
• Troubleshoot fibre issues (splicing, testing, OTDR) and wireless issues (signal testing, bandwidth validation).
• Resolve basic network problems such as IP conflicts, firewall and routing issues, and install/configure VoIP systems.
• Complete job cards, capture photographic evidence, and update tickets for invoicing and reporting.
• Communicate with the Installation Team Leader on RF signal strength, fibre allocations and client satisfaction.
• Work overtime, weekends and emergency call‑outs as required, including operating safely at heights and in confined spaces.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• Minimum 1 year experience in fibre optic splicing and 1 year in RF/wireless installations.
• Basic networking knowledge and computer literacy.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean record.
• Ability to work physically demanding tasks, lift, climb and operate at heights.
• Medically fit for height work and self‑disciplined, motivated and well‑organised.

Required skills

• Fibre optic splicing (fusion splicing, OTDR usage).
• RF/wireless installation and troubleshooting.
• Network troubleshooting (IP conflicts, firewall, routing).
• VoIP system installation and configuration.
• Use of hand and power tools, cable termination.
• Basic computer literacy.
