Engineering Geologist – Geotechnical Projects

About the role

The Engineering Geologist will lead geotechnical investigations for infrastructure projects, providing data‑driven recommendations that shape project design and delivery. Reporting to the Section Manager, the role combines field supervision, technical analysis, and client interaction.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct desktop studies, prefeasibility, and detailed geotechnical investigations.
• Collect, analyse, and interpret data to support project planning and design.
• Supervise geotechnical contractors on‑site, including appointment, performance monitoring, health & safety compliance, and payment certification.
• Lead small teams of technicians, students, draughtsmen, and graduates.
• Prepare and deliver high‑quality technical reports and presentations.
• Make technical decisions, develop solutions to complex engineering problems, and ensure design quality.
• Prepare tender documents, Bills of Quantities, specifications, and cost estimates for investigations and construction.
• Develop and implement internal standards, monitor construction compliance, and perform project auditing.
• Manage client invoicing, financial forecasting, budgeting, and resource planning.

Required profile

• BSc (Hons) in Engineering Geology, Geology or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of practical experience in a geotechnical engineering firm.
• Professional registration with SACNASP (PrSci.Nat) and SAIEG (candidate to member).
• Proven experience in geotechnical investigations, reporting, and contractor supervision.
• Understanding of local business technologies, markets, and project management tools.
