Director of SEO & GEO (Search Experience)

About the role

The Director of SEO & GEO (Search Experience) leads the strategy that drives client visibility across the entire digital discovery ecosystem, from traditional organic rankings to AI‑driven citations in large language models. You will manage a high‑performing remote team and shape the agency’s response to emerging generative search experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Develop frameworks to optimise brand citations within LLMs, managing sentiment, entity‑based optimisation and brand‑authority signals.
• Architect the agency’s strategy for Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE), securing snapshot placements and maintaining click‑through rates.
• Integrate AI tools to automate technical audits, keyword clustering and predictive trend analysis.
• Oversee omnichannel SEO – technical SEO, backlink strategy and site architecture – ensuring alignment with GEO initiatives.
• Define success metrics for a zero‑click world, focusing on share of voice within AI‑generated answers.
• Serve as senior strategist for high‑value accounts, translating SEO/GEO performance into clear ROI.
• Mentor remote Account Managers, driving client retention and proactive strategy pivots.
• Lead the content team to meet E‑E‑A‑T standards and balance human‑led creativity with AI‑assisted production.

Required profile

• 10+ years of SEO experience, including 2+ years in a director‑level role managing remote teams.
• Deep understanding of LLM retrieval‑augmented generation and how to influence AI citations.
• Proven track record managing multi‑million‑dollar portfolios with 90%+ client retention.
• Expertise leading distributed teams across time zones using collaboration tools.
