DevOps Engineer

About the role

A leading South African technology and engineering business is seeking a DevOps Engineer to join a high‑performing multidisciplinary team developing innovative IoT, energy management and operational intelligence solutions across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Own, design, deploy and maintain cloud infrastructure and services.
• Manage and optimise containerised environments for performance and cost efficiency.
• Build, maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines.
• Implement infrastructure security controls, compliance measures and vulnerability management.
• Develop monitoring, observability and alerting solutions using modern tooling.
• Troubleshoot production incidents and implement preventative improvements.
• Support products throughout their full lifecycle, including deployments, enhancements and releases.
• Collaborate closely with software engineers, QA teams and operations stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
• 2–5 years of hands‑on DevOps experience.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical and communication abilities.
• Experience writing technical documentation.

Required skills

• Linux operating systems.
• Scripting with Bash, Python and/or Node.js.
• Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• CI/CD platforms – Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD.
• Database administration – PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB.
• Cloud platforms – AWS, Azure, GCP, Hetzner.
