Consultant in Cardiology (General Cardiology & Cardiac Imaging)

About the role

This full‑time Consultant Cardiologist position focuses on General Cardiology, Echocardiography and Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, NHS Grampian. You will join a team of eleven cardiologists serving a population of 620,000 across Aberdeen, Orkney and Shetland.

Key responsibilities

• Provide General Adult Cardiology receiving duties on a 1:11 rota, including weekend ward rounds.
• Run three outpatient clinics per week covering General Cardiology and ACHD, supported by a specialist nurse.
• Deliver a weekly Transoesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) list and contribute imaging expertise to the general MDT and TAVI MDT.
• Participate in specialist clinics such as Complex Heart Failure, Arrhythmias, Valve Disease, Cardiomyopathies and Familial Arrhythmia.
• Support stress echocardiography or nuclear medicine services as required.

Required profile

• Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC.
• Experience in General Cardiology with a strong interest in Echocardiography and ACHD.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Echocardiography (including TEE, 3D, contrast and stress echo)
• Adult Congenital Heart Disease assessment
• Cardiac MRI, Coronary CT, PET imaging
• Nuclear Medicine cardiac imaging (Myocardial Perfusion Scintigraphy, MUGA, DPD)
