Workshop & Field Service Manager

About the role

The Workshop & Field Service Manager will lead all workshop operations and field service activities for compressors, turbines and related rotating equipment at Howden Africa Compressors & Turbines Division. This role ensures operational excellence, safety compliance, customer satisfaction and profitability of service operations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day workshop operations, including repair, refurbishment and testing of compressors, turbines and auxiliary equipment.
• Plan, schedule and coordinate workshop and field service activities such as breakdowns, shutdowns and planned maintenance.
• Provide technical support and guidance to workshop and field teams; review technical reports, root‑cause analyses and failure investigations.
• Enforce strict adherence to health, safety and environmental policies, conduct safety audits, risk assessments and toolbox talks.
• Act as primary contact for customers on service delivery and technical matters, ensuring timely, high‑quality service aligned with contracts.
• Lead, mentor and develop personnel, conduct performance reviews and identify training needs.
• Manage service department budgets, monitor labour efficiency, parts usage and job costing to improve margins.
• Ensure all repairs and fieldwork meet company quality standards through inspections and audits.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading workshop and field service teams in the rotating equipment sector.
• Strong knowledge of OEM specifications, engineering drawings and industry quality standards.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, control costs and drive profitability.
• Excellent understanding of health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Customer‑focused mindset with strong communication skills.
