Utilities Manager – Plant Operations

About the role

Sappi is seeking a Utilities Manager to lead engineering and maintenance activities that ensure optimal plant performance, cost control, and safety. You will drive productivity improvements using TPM and Lean principles while managing shutdowns, maintenance plans, and resource utilization.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and implement productivity and quality enhancements through TPM and Lean Manufacturing.
• Plan and oversee plant operations to maximize resource utilization.
• Develop, schedule, and manage shutdown and maintenance plans.
• Establish and enforce engineering and maintenance standards and procedures.
• Lead shift teams and multidisciplinary teams (MDT) to achieve OEE targets.
• Investigate and prevent CSR incidents, conduct root‑cause analyses, and ensure corrective actions.
• Maintain optimal inventory levels to mitigate production risks.
• Set goals, appraise, and develop subordinates through training and coaching.
• Coordinate work prioritization across disciplines and manage associated risks.
• Communicate strategy, goals, and day‑to‑day interventions to all shifts.

Required profile

• BSc Degree, B‑Tech or equivalent (GCC factories experience advantageous).
• 5–8 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years in boiler operations/maintenance.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
