Unit Manager – Surgical Ward

About the role

The Unit Manager will coordinate capacity building, mentoring, coaching, training and development within the surgical ward. The role ensures quality nursing care and service delivery are implemented by a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safe, cost‑effective, quality patient care aligned with clinical governance and evidence‑based practice.
• Evaluate patient journeys through experience feedback and stakeholder input.
• Monitor nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes.
• Communicate effectively with patients regarding their care.
• Promote health and wellbeing of patients and staff.
• Ensure infection prevention and adherence to international standard precautions.
• Implement group quality initiatives and liaise with public liability on risk incidents.

Required profile

• Relevant nursing qualification (B Cur Degree or equivalent) or relevant management qualification.
• Registered with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse.
• Minimum 3–5 years experience as a Unit Manager.
• Compliance with SANC code for Registered Nurses and applicable health care legislation.
• Compulsory BLS certification and midwifery qualification.
• Advanced computer literacy.
