After-Hours Veterinary Nurse

About the role

An established small‑animal practice in Durban is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Nurse to support after‑hours clinical care. You will work closely with veterinarians to ensure high‑quality patient care throughout hospital stays, procedures and recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with examinations, surgeries and routine dental procedures.
• Administer medications, vaccines and treatments as directed.
• Perform laboratory tests, diagnostic procedures and imaging techniques.
• Monitor patients during surgeries and recovery periods.
• Maintain hygiene standards, prepare the hospital and theatre, and manage medical equipment, medication and consumables.
• Supervise orderlies and Animal Health Technicians and support daily clinical operations.

Required profile

• Registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
• Professional attitude, positive mindset and genuine passion for animal welfare.
• Team player with effective communication skills.
• Organised, proactive and committed to high standards of patient care and hygiene.
• Willingness to learn and develop professionally.
