Unit Manager – Obstetrics

About the role

The Unit Manager – Obstetrics leads the obstetrics nursing unit at Mediclinic, ensuring safe patient care, high clinical quality, and a positive client experience. The role combines clinical oversight with operational, financial and staff management to optimise resources and deliver excellent service.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure safe patient care by meeting clinical quality standards and company policies.
• Manage and mitigate clinical risks within the unit.
• Lead, coach and manage all nursing and support staff.
• Control operational and capital expenses in line with budget guidelines.
• Optimise resource utilisation and staff productivity.
• Contribute actively to a positive client experience and inter‑departmental outcomes.
• Maintain key stakeholder relationships and support accreditation processes.

Required profile

• Professional Nurse qualification.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Health Services Management or an accredited management qualification.
• Alternatively, 5 years of hospital leadership experience together with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing for specialist units.
• Minimum of 5 years nursing experience in a hospital setting.
• At least 2 years of leadership experience in a hospital environment.
