Unit Manager – NICU/Paediatrics

About the role

The Unit Manager will lead the NICU/Paediatrics unit, ensuring high‑quality patient care, safety and operational excellence. You will provide direction to staff, maintain professional standards and drive cost‑effective service delivery within legal and policy frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all daily activities of the NICU/Paediatrics unit in line with SANC, DOH and National Core Standards.
• Uphold patient advocacy principles, company code of conduct and patient rights.
• Oversee ward administration, ensuring compliance with protocols, security and a safe patient environment.
• Manage the unit’s cost centre, equipment, tools and stock according to guidelines.
• Supervise permanent and agency staff, identify quality‑improvement opportunities and implement them.

Required profile

• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council.
• Cur/Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery; post‑basic qualification in Child Nursing Science.
• Minimum 3 years experience in a managerial or supervisory nursing role.
• Computer literacy and ability to work with administrative systems.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – advantageous.
• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) – advantageous.
